We started the day hunting down fugu. I’ve been banging on about it for weeks. No one thought it was a good idea to try it, so we just went for a walk around Shinjuku trying to find a restaurant with a tank.

Thanks to my friend Prickles for the photo.

We then went to a station we hadn’t used before and went into Tokyo Station. I wanted to check out the setup and how to get to the Shinkansen platforms. When we got there it was crazy busy. We just made our way through the sea of people trying to find the bullet train platforms. Our rail passes give us access to most trains, so we were able to access the platform without buying a ticket. We found a quiet spot at the end of one of the platforms and watched the trains come and go. We have our first train booked for Monday. It will be nice to give one a go.

Gus’ cheap dodgey headphones started to pack it in so I did a search for an electronics store. Now if you’ve been here before you probably know about BIC Camera, but it was news to me. This place was crazy. Every brand of everything that takes power and more. They have isles dedicated to cases and screen protectors for each model of iPhone or Samsung etc. We went to the audio floor and there was every model and colour of every brand. I just picked we just were overwhelmed so I just picked up the ticket thing for the cheapest ok brand ones I could find. Spoke to a nice lady who studied English in Adelaide. She got the test pair out and put some disposable ear thing on for him to test. Gus picked his colour of new headphones (tealish) and away we went. I should have taken a photo of the cases of beer being sold next to blank CDs and DVDs. I was looking for 3.5” floppies to show Gus but couldn’t find any. I’m sure they were somewhere.

We then went on the hunt for food. Now I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong, but I can’t find decent vegetarian food anywhere. Even the “Vegetable Only” noodles I got him were sprinkled with pork garnish. We’re resorted to these little sushi triangles with soy sauce as emergency food. Thanks 7-Eleven. After a fail with noodles, I got Gus some triangles and a pudding drink. It was like drinking a Crème Brûlée. We just sat for a bit watching trains go past before heading back to the hotel.

We put some TV on and watched these two guys do stuff at the airport. One of them was Roland apparently. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_(entertainer). He seemed interesting. Big ridiculous glasses trying to drive a tug. We still don’t know what it was about, but we watched anyway.
